In 2006, we want you the fans to come up with a true hit song for your Idol and show the 'professionals' how it should be done.
Over the next 9 weeks we want you to help us collaborate on coming up with two songs - one for a male winner and one for a female winner.
For the first part of the competition, we are looking for people to submit only a verse and chorus and state which gender the lyrics are written for.
All entries must be posted here by 6pm on the 15th of September, 2006 in time for the next phase of the competition.
Stay tuned for more info as there will be a number of phases to this competition which will be announced prior to them commencing.
NB. This isn't an official songwriting competition for NZ Idol and there is no guarantee that the song will ever be used. However, in the event that it is used, all earnings would be split between the writer/s and idolblog.

Oh man, I just bought a decent stand alone digital recorder with all the bells and whistles and have selected 20 possible tracks for my greatest hits. I've got one old song, which is pretty much regarded as my best song by anyone who has listened to my music *shrugs*, but I don't want it on my best of because it is about my ex-girlfriend and meh ... you know ... it's called 'Kiss Goodbye' and I wrote it a while ago. It works fast or slow, pop or punk, sober or drunk

BAN THE BALLADS!!!!!
Ballads are ok, but they have to get rid of writing a "new song" to the exact same Idol Winner's Melody (TM) that makes all the songs sound the same. TCTTA, All I Ask, Angels Bought Me Here....all virtually identical.
And no crap about how much they love Idol and how its changed their lives via transparent metaphors. Boooooring.
