Submitted by mumsgirl on 4 January, 2005 - 12:57am.

1.just think if william hung can do it so can I
2.don't be too serious... they're not
3.be different
4.whatever you do
do it at 100% level nothing less
5.always go out to win
6.try not to make a fool of yourself.
if you do accidently, then go all the way to making even a bigger hash of yourself so that you can at least get on tv or in the papers.
7. Keep in mind they are not looking at just how good you can sing.. If thats what you're thinking you will only disappoint yourself.
8. Always have you ID on you never lose it whilst auditioning
9. Preferrably have the touch of NZ otherwise choose any song
10. Put aside anything political in your singing
11. sing only english/ sorry but thats the rules
12. during your auditions please don't make any mistakes they look for any excuse about getting rid of you
13. Please don't tell em you sing in a shower! leave that out of your vocab and have lots of fun
and please don't cry if you lose.

All I learned in life I learned from Idol

(though this also dips into Australian and American a bit, I still think it's entirely applicable)

mumsgirl 10 January, 2005 - 1:50pm

Recalling your memories as great a singer as the italian was, he still never got first, he got second but not first...

but,,, if you all recall the World idol now when you get to that level, where that woman sung in her own countries language, the judges specified that as lovely as it was, that the requirement had to be in english... and that was the only reason that woman never got in. In her country she one in her language... but world idol level she never...

so I am not saying that you to put you off singing in whatever language... its that you won't get to world idol level in any other language, until someone changes judges and attitudes..

so yeah English has to be if you wanna at least get through the door

*brightly* They're not even doing World Idol anymore. Laughing out loud

mumsgirl 12 January, 2005 - 1:53pm

you think there isn't going to be another world idol...

World idol and money talks so....brightly!!!!! there will be another world idol 2005!

mumsgirl 12 January, 2005 - 3:05pm

and world idol or not was not the topic (camis my mgr)

It was someone querying about english or not....

I stated in the 13 choices what would be suitable for the next New Zealand idol.... it would only prepare you for any future world idol if there be one.

and..... I was having fun.... so leave it at that.

I'm also having fun. I'm really really sorry, but I enjoy disagreeing with you. Does this make me a bad person? Eh, probably.

Indeed, it's even more pointless when you see the contestants. The winner of the Arabic Pop Idol, for example, sang a traditional middle-eastern song in Arabic, and clearly sang it well, but it was utterly alien to everyone outside the Middle East. Similarly, Belgium's representative was a long-haired Kurt Cobain look-alike who sung Nirvana. Trying to compare these two acts is simply impossible and makes the contest ridiculous. Similarly those from a non-English speaking country are at a disadvantage as they're singing in a foreign language. It's obvious that all the participating countries have completely different tastes in music and completely different ideas as to what makes a Pop Idol. If Cowell and Fuller wanted to illustrate the worldwide reach of the programme, then they should have done it with a documentary or variety show. Making a competition out of it is ludicrous because there's no way you can judge between them. Furthermore, when Cowell slags off the German Pop Idol, he's not just slagging off the singer, but also the tastes of the German viewers for making him winner, and the German series as a whole for not coming up with anyone better. This isn't a celebration of the world of pop, if anything it's penalising it for being unique to its country of origin.
