Top 2: The NZ Idol 3 B!tch & Moan Thread

Submitted by miss_chaos on 2 November, 2006 - 1:59pm.

Hey noobs! You got something nasty to say about an Idol?

Instead of saying it in fanclub threads, or trashing threads that support our Idols, say it in here so we can avoid it.

kthxbye

I think the main problem is the judges keep looking for the same type of artists. I remember auditioning in the first season and being told i was too old school sounding similar to those of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and i thought that was a huge compliment but that wasnt what they were looking for. I tried again for season 2 with a newer song and i was dubbed that I was too musical theatre and again in season 3 and was told that talent was much higher this year in comparision (what a crock of sh!t that was). Now I didnt expect to make it far in the competition but I just feel that people similar to myself would have also been turned away because of the certain type of music we sung or how we sung it.

I have many friends who are amazing but were turned away because they were too classical, they were too theatrical, they were too country, too trained etc.... While other places around the world celebrate diversity especially American Idol which has seen a Pop, Rnb, Soul, Old School, Rocker, Trained singers making the top 2. Canadian Idol also saw one of the most theatrical singer on any Idol show to date and she made it to top 5 with an amazingly trained singer Eva Avila won the whole competition. But it seems NZ is all about RnB and Soft Rock which is fine when the first 2 winners won it but all I see in Indira and Matt is Rosita and Ben and we all know where they ended up (Although I am still a huge Rosita fan).

Themes were at an all-time low with absolutely no imagination with the contestant's song choices either. Big Band, Rock Supergroups, Unplugged and Viewer's Choice are much better themes that other countries currently have that are much better. Dutch Idol have dancers behind them and they face working on choreography every week and they look great (sure maybe alittle cheesey) while our Idol's looked like retards not even gelling(is that a word) with the dancers.

As for the talent well it was at an all time low and makes me ashamed that i mocked people from the last 2 season's who were alot more on key then these guys. Ashlee, Clinton, Indira, Toni, Victor, Aroha, Kali & Ben all faced some major pitch problems more than once while Matt and Becks were becoming same 'ol same 'ol who may have been consistent but but predictable (Becks never once sung anything from top 18 onwards that wasnt overly done on idol shows while Matt sung at least 8 overdone idol songs). In fact Crazy, 4ever, Knocking On Heaven's Door, Love Child, Soak Up The Sun and a few more were the only times that the songs on Idol 3 hadn't been done already on other Idol shows.

Production wise I guess we can't do that much better unless peter jackson directed it (yeah right) so i'd love to complain about it but it is only a NZ show.

Overall the worst season of NZ Idol by FAR lacked major talent, surprises and constructive critisicim(sp?) going by votes in international forums and my own judgement it is in the top 5 worst Idol show's around the world with only Malaysian Idol 2, Indian Idol 2, Croatian Idol 2 and Singapore Idol 1 being worse than this.

Going again by votes from international forums NZ Idol is currently the 3rd Worst Idol series in the world after Croatia and Denmark. This is based on the votes and he amount of singles sold per capita.

Again I say NO MORE IDOL BRING ON THE X-FACTOR!

sorry i couldnt help but reply to this!

Firstly - song choice... all contestants are contstantly told to go for the middle of the road same old songs in fact most of us tried really hard to get other songs but were denied due to copyright issues! And my song choices (I didnt watch series one so actually had no idea that Camellia had sung both Lady Marmalade and Peice of my heart until I read on idol blog - in fact I learn a lot from reading idol blog!) and we didnt get to choose the genres - actually cabaret was going to be one of them which I was really looking forward to!

I also got denied in my audition this year at first because I was too theatrical and was told it is a pop competition. I chose a jazz standard and then had to ask to sing something else! This show is about luck of the draw not talent - I also know people who didnt get through who are awesome.

Also cause the NZ Idol budget is way way way lower than most other countries the sound is going to be an issue... pitch problems are almost unavoidable if you cant hear yourself!

Anyway sorry about my rant I just get annoyed when people compare this to other countries cause money talks! But I do aggree with you that NZ does go for the same people but thats how it goes and good on people for supporting who they like!

Becks im a big fan of yours I met you at the Centrestage a few years back and knew you were amazing when I head you sing 'Still Hurting' (you made me download the song and have listened to it ever since) BUT the budget is alot higher than a few of the Idol series out there. Serbia & Montengro's(sp?) competition was recorded in a hall similar to one you would see in any High School hall in New Zealand and the recordings look much worse than NZ but the talent was still able to come across in over the television. Croatia, Russia, Czech Rep and Turkey all had minimal budgets because either they wErent supported, could'nt afford it or they had a more successful style show was already running.

I apologise about the song choices now that im told your actually told what to sing but isn't it possible to go for more obscure songs from the 60's,70's and 80's that people are instantly familiar with but may have forgotton about and what about NZ songs? I would say "but America got to choose anything they like" but im sure money was a factor in that im sure. Were you given a list of songs to do? I know that of the above countriesi mentioned that had a lower budget were able to sing the songs in full or were able to sing almost anything they wanted.

Please fill me in.

I saw the cover of the Matt cd single today, you can't see one of his hands properly.  Unfortunately, my first thought was ... what's he hiding in that hand? Puzzled Pretty bad for a Matt fan.
