Top 2: 80,000 NZERS CAN’T BE WRONG

Submitted by TuiKiwi on 30 October, 2006 - 4:46pm.

(yes, this is Friday's news but still)

Telecom is expecting over 80,000 text messages this Sunday when avid
NZ Idol watchers text their vote for either Matt or Indira during this
weekend’s final episode.

The top 2 Idols, Indira Moala (21 years from Glen Eden, Auckland)
and Matt Saunoa (21 years from Levin) are battling it out for the title
of NZ Idol.

Kevin Bowler, Telecom’s GM of Consumer Marketing believes the ability to text vote is not only easy but also efficient.

“You don’t have to leave the couch to vote for your favourite NZ
Idol finalist, it is perfect for Idol’s fanatical fans who are largely
text savvy young New Zealanders.

In the top 9 elimination show there were 30,000 votes received DURING the show. They got fined because that wasn't format.

And every show, the person who had the least number of votes before the show started didn't go home, looks like if we'd stuck to the previous 2 seasons format we would have had a very different outcome.

That's exactly what I was thinking each week - that the outcome would have been completely different if the voting hadn't gone on for that extra time - especially after the judges said who they though ought to go!Sad

Even read it in some mags, that the person who went was different to the person who had lowest votes at the beginning of the Monday shows.

So if they got fined after the top 9 show, how comes they were able to carry on doing it?

They didn't. During that show they had the 'sing off', but on the shows after that they just had all of the bottom 2 or 3 sing when their name was called, it wasn't a sing off as such.

That's right, it was different that first week, and after a lot of fuss, they didn't pick out the 2 at the beginning, just had the judges saying who they thought should be going!Sad

Not much better.  Still changed the way the voting went by the sound of it!Sad

I have an e-pal from England

Looks like we should have stuck the the previous seasons' format then.

How much do Telecon and Voda take out their cut for expenses. and then the the lions share goes to TVNZ rolling in the cash Laughing out loud Now TVNZ board will be revisiting.... is there still hope for Idol-4 after the windfall they just got handed along with advertisers paying in too Eye-wink

Theyve got to run on a profit margin and if it adds up to a good percentage then hopefully it'll be on again for season 4

Telecom is predicting that the total texts during the competition
period from 6th August to Sunday the 29th of October will exceed
500,000.

That's alot of money for TVNZ.
