Thinking back, Matt must watch how he talks in public, doesn't sound too good what he comes out with sometimes!Sad

Hmmm i think HC was grand-standing. and how much does Labour give for entertainment purposes anyway to do with young New Zealanders and singing type stuff?

Helen Clark is a huge supporter of the arts.

I've seen her at many many events. Don Brash I have yet to see at anything.

Jemma 5 November, 2006 - 9:00pm

I actually have a political opinion Shocked *is proud*

Mm but WHY does Helen Clark show herself as a supporter of the arts? Because of our artsy country, and she thinks by showing herself at the events and..."supporting" them, she'll get votes. And because we're NZ, it works.

AND Don Brash came to the Big Sing National Finale but Helen Clark was "busy". Sticking out tongue

That's a point - with Helen Clark appearing and showing support for the Idol show and people in it, is she going to encourage her party to support them financially - to help young people in their futures in the NZ entertainment industry?

SingaBoi 30 October, 2006 - 5:04pm

Im loving what people around the world are saying about NZ Idol 3!

From Frankie J in Montreal "And the winner of NZ Idol 3 is Benjamin Lummis 2.0: Matthew Saunoa!"

From FrenchieRox in India "Congrats to him...Didnt care much for either one, so its all good."

From marquise in Virgina "I'm sorry to say it..but that was one of the worst, if not the worst, seasons I've ever seen.

Talk about lackluster talent! What did they run out of good singers in just 2 years? Or have the all emmigrated to Australia or somewhere?

Well..I thought Indira had it in the bag. They were both less than spectacular to me anyway"

From BballKates in Colorado "NZ does not have good idols at all. And boy does that single suck. I think I may have found a country that has worse winner's singles than the US"

From reverie in UK "aw i quite liked indira."

From lomovsky "The show NEEDS...

NEW Fashion stylists
NEW Hair stylists
NEW Creative Director
NEW Producers
NEW Vision
NEW Voice coach

I'm sure most of you have noticed that the whole show lacks 'LIFE'...with this somewhat 'dull' atmosphere...and have you seen what the contestants are wearing??? and their hair??? and POOR song choices! Is there someone that could advice them on what to sing?

Right now, looking at both Matt & Indira, I still think that they need a MAJOR makeover! They don't look like stars at all and very undesirable. I foresee low album sales. and I also find it interesting that Aroha made it to TOP 3!

Oh God...that was the most boring Top 2 show I've ever watched.
Matt & Indira are both decent singers...but the whole production is SO lacklustre!!! The direction of the show is not exciting as well. The stage design, lighting & camera movements could be MUCH MUCH BETTER than that."

I loved Matt's version of Hold Out so much that we voted an extra five times. Then Indira trashed Crazy in Love and I was like Puzzled Matt so has to win! When Matt won it made me cry :'( I'm stoked for him.

idoltoday 30 October, 2006 - 3:58pm

Yep, the performances were great!   Could have done without the re-hash of the auditions though - v boring.

Ben was pitch perfect so good on him for nailing that song especially after we saw him admit after singing it the first time that it wasn't his best.  Him, Clinton and Victor looked amazing in their cricket gear!

Can't wait to see Kali in a stage show, she lights up the stage, and hopefully Toni, Becks and Indira will follow up on their idea to make a girl band - would rock Smiling

Real low point for me was the 'groove/move' award.  It was poorly explained and no-one knew what was going on.  Think the producers would have been better off leaving it out.

Really enjoyed this show - on TV!Eye-wink

Loved seeing everyone again!  Thought again how some of them went way too early - and that some of those there nearer the end shouldn't have been!

Everyone seemed confident and like they were thoroughly enjoying performing.

A completely new look for Victor.  Thought it made him look better, not so dorky.  Wondered if he'd have got further in the contest with his new look.  Would have liked to have heard more from him in the show.

Again thought how Toni and Becks should have been in the top 4!

Aroha seemed to want to reveal even more of herself, making her legs look very long and stick-like!

Was noticable how Ben was out of his depth and I was again surprised how he got so far as he did!

Clinton comes across as a great guy, but I really see him as a presenter, not a singer!

As for the 'special guest'  Helen Clark, well, what a lovely surprise for everyone!Eye-wink Was actually waiting for another one, but she was it!  Good on her for being there though!  For thinking this show is important enough for her to attend!  She was there to show her support for the young entertainers in this country:)  More than they get from fellow musicians/singers!Sad

Glad I recorded it so I can watch it again!Smiling

I have to say that was The. Best. NZ Idol. Show. Ever!

I thought that every single contestant had their best night on the stage last night. You could just see them oozing with confidence and feeding of the energy of the audience. It was pretty phenomenal.

Two standouts for me last night had to be Indira's Beyonce - which Ben choreographed for her. WOW! The whole place was on their feet and grooving like no other Idol audience I've seen. Secondly was Kali's solo at the start. That was SO the hawtness!

If they do end up doing a fourth season, I think they're gonna be hard pressed trying to take it back to the studio. The best thing they could do is sell tickets each week. Having an audience that had paid money to be there meant that they were into the gig and you could just tell from the vibe of the place that it was a million times more electric than the most hyper audience at Tolich Place.

I think the producers really did the format proud with that show last night and watching it back at the after party, I really did think that it stacked up with the international format - possibly for the first time in three years. It was definitely the best Idol moment of the series to date.

Sir Barney 30 October, 2006 - 4:57pm
If it doesn't kill you, you've failed.

"That was SO the hawtness
ROFL!!

I thought the show was great too except they didn't have any of those confetti crap dropping down when he was at the end of this song. That would have been cool.

That stuff was still falling at the studio this year even at the top 3 show I kid you not...rofl!

SingaBoi 30 October, 2006 - 4:49pm

I thought is was the worst final we have had! It was tragic and made us look like complete amatures(sp?).

Matt winning was a fitting end to such a below average season I barely watched the final and went and had a shower when they were singing their single which was soooo bad it made Casey Donovan's look like pure class. I didnt find out who one till Scap txted me and I thought when the top 10 sung individually only Toni and Ben were on key that's even more tragic coz I dont even like them.

SCRAP IDOL AND BRING ON THE X-FACTOR!

Jaynee 30 October, 2006 - 4:44pm
I see Sam's Town now!

Yes Kali was AWESOME!

Scap 30 October, 2006 - 9:58am

WOO we have the same 2 standouts Laughing out loud Kali was so fantastic last night, more so than she usually is. I was like Shocked and then when Indira did crazy in love I was like Shocked her vocal wasnt fantastic but that performance looked fricken great on TV so I can only imagine how cool it would of been live.

I also liked:

  • Aroha - I wanna dance with somebody
  • Matt - His version of hold out (wtf is up with the verses in that song? run out of lyrics?)

The Critic 30 October, 2006 - 10:48am
www.throng.co.nz

Indira was SO hot doing that song! Anyone who made ANY comparisons to her and Rosita should be shot after that performance! WOW!

And I thought Kali was just absolutely glowing in her performance. Hawt Hawt Hawt!!!

daphne 30 October, 2006 - 11:28am

That is so cool that Ben choreographed for her!  Standouts for me were definitely seeing Kali and Ben perform how they probably wanted to all season, without the pressure and the movement restrictions.  They both shone.  Aroha looked good too.

IMHO Kali, Ben and Aroha really proved their stage X factor and why they made the top 5

What a fun night ! Just got home from the after function thingy...thanks R&R! (and Aroha's bf for giving Jessie a tkt thingy....)

The line to get in was suuuuuper long, and once we finally got in we made our way to the frontish part on the side thanks to spazzomattazz, but we were all havng to stand in single file which sucked mega sized balls. Couple of mins later Regan was randomly behind us and said that a couple of us could go sit upstairs cos they'd pulled some extra chairs out, so WOO me & jess got to hangout at the back usptairs. We couldnt see the big screen too well so we ended up sitting in the aisle further down.

I rang miss_chaos a couple of times to see if it sounded better on my phone than through the tv..prob not though lol!

There were nowhere near as many celebs there this year as last year, which was actually kinda nice. The vibe was so cool.

When Matt won it was a bit of a shame, I thought it was funny that thewhole audience was standing and cheering minus the ZM crew, who wern't clapping, good on them ! Can't wait for Matt's interviews tomorrow.

Afterwards we had the mini-function thingy, all the Idols n stuff came to hang out, caught up with Becks, was nice to finally chat to her properly-ish, chatted with Clint & Jaime who are just as lovely as ever, can't wait til Clint get's himself a job on tv! And got a photo with Kali & had a quick chat with Indira, but didn't want to bother her too much. It's cool how friendly everyone is and that they remember you, and it's cool knowing they have their heads screwed on.

It was a fun night overall, I'm glad I decided to go in the end, last years grand final was amazing but it was great knowing that the fans had the opportunity to go too this year. Thanks again to R&R for getting us upstairs Smiling chur!

Just got back, 'twas SUCH a good night Laughing out loud

You know what though, I can't even be bothered doing my usual half-a-page recap, there was just too much!

Highlights:

- Matt's performance of that Thicke track. Flawless.
- Helen Clark trying to be hip. Oh yeah.
- Matt's nana (my wheelchair buddy woop woop!) crying when he was announced the winner, so sweet!
- Ashley trying to say criti ... criticiss ... lmao
- Chatting to Jessie Cassin Laughing out loud haha no, I'm so not over that hill..

Indira's sister came up to me after the show and introduced herself which was nice, she reckoned she'd seen me around Uni?! I was like "um, maybe... 2 years ago" lol but it was still cool to chat with her. She said Indira was taking the loss pretty well.

And omg Tui dude I have no idea what you look like, sorry bro! You shoulda come up and said hi to us all Laughing out loud

I don't think Stables was listening to what Frankie said that's why he missed his cue he didn't know what Frankie was going on about. But it was pretty obvious when Frankie said " Oh yeah" that Stables was mean't to join in at the same time but Stables sat there looking blank.

Sir Barney 29 October, 2006 - 10:27pm
If it doesn't kill you, you've failed.

Stables is too dorky.
He totally missed the 'oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaah' cue with Frankie, instead he chose to sit there with that 'I'm a goofy retard' grin on his face. I couldn't help but think he looked toothless in some of the shots of the judges.

Hey! I'm still in Aucks, im just using a free wireless internet connection Sticking out tongue

It was great. When I got there, the line streched from the doors around the corner, where I stood for awhile. When we got in, we were told where to go and went up a few flights of stairs to the very top. As one of the ladies explained where we were going to sit, Rachel and Regan clomped up the stairs (they were in the seats area) behind her. I yelled 'Rachel' but she didn't see me. Anyway, I got my seats and blah blah it was good. Fave part was when Indira's mates were in the row in front, and they were yelling to Indira (during ad break). Indira jumbled out from the side of the stage, did some hand gestures and tripped/fell, and nearly pulled part of the set down. Opps Laughing out loud

At the end, we walked though the lobby and I saw Spazz, Roar and whoever else was there. I caught Spazz's eye but looked away Sticking out tongue

Now im really hungry at the apartment and I wish Wendy's was open!
