I think the song is okay not all that great, but then again the NZ idol single songs aren't that great anyways. However, in saying that i do believe that Matt sings the song better than Indira. Indira doesn't suit singing pop songs, and she really didn't sing it as good as Matt.
Most winners songs seems to be much the same - whatever country!
The one that was different and memorable - and actually did very well - was 'They can't take that away'! A lot of the success of that was because of the way it was sung though.
i really like this song but matt did an awful job of it but indira did it really well. its the best single out of the nz idolz! i think mattz useless and didn dezerve tah win
You just have to swallow your pride and ask at the counter, Phantomb I got mine from Sounds at the north end of Lambton Quay (opposite Midland Park) and had to ask at the counter cause it had only just come in and wasn't on display yet :|
Today at school this girl was talking about the song but she kept calling it hold my hand or something lol, she had no idea what it was called! Shows how memorable it is XD
And has anyone heard of "Tace" Records before?! (That's what it looks like on the cover, anyway ...)
And WHY do they always give us an "instrumental version of the single" as the b side?!! I mean, don't they think we want to hear the singing SINGING??!! It's not like they're a musician and are going to be playing the instrumental themselves ... what is actually the point of an instrumental as the b side?!
People are difficult to govern because they have t
When are they going to release the single? I'm really surprised that they didn't release the single today. Imagine if they release the single after a month or so. By then, everyone would've forgotten Matt.
It wasn't that bad. A lot rockier than Ben's or Rosita's disgusting trashy pieces of crap they had the gall to call 'songs'. But the single should've been the Llama Song. It's a song everyone can sing along to, with a catchy hook, memorable lyrics and an infectious beat.
But at least the words to Ben's and Rosita's singles actually MEANT something ... so far, from what various people have been able to pick up from the couple of times we've heard it, Hold Out doesn't really have much depth to it! :|
Yes well considering the state that James Reid was in when he wrote it and he hadn't finished writing it when Matt and Indira turned up to record it, and was asking them to add lyrics, no wonder it doesn't have depth.
Thought 'what a nothing song that is' when Indira sung it. Didn't like her version of it at all.
Though still thought it was a 'nothing song', Matt made it a lot more interesting to listen to.
Not very long and very repetitive as well as being about nothing in particular - well, as far as I could make out.
Heard it twice on the radio this morning :) Matt may just have the voice that will make it take off. The DJ's preferred it to Rosita's song and said they'll be playing it more in the future! Whereas I only ever heard them play Rosita once, then they said they'd had to, and like that was going to be it.
I was a bit lost with that song too. :( The other two, Ben's and Rosita's, at least made sense, but this one, one is left wondering, 'What comes next'.
That quite aside though, who thinks that Matt will be able to up the NZ Idol status from the last two years worth of our Music Industry standards, if they have standards at all, that is, and one wonders?
Oh, classic moment on More FM this morning! LOL Justin and Kath were talking about having Matt on the phone with them later on, and Justin said that they'd play the "live" version of the single from last night at that time too. And then he said, "what's it called again?"
I liked Matt's version of the new single it flowed better seemed a bit faster than when Indira sang it. When Indira sang the song I didn't like it, it was too slow, but when Matt sang it it just sounded right.
Well, this song's DEFINITELY a hit!!! ... not! I was honestly almost falling asleep when the two of the sung it tonight Bit of a shame, really, that they couldn't have had a decent song ...
That was a horrible song, wasn't it! Just heard Indira sing it, she was clearly bamboozled by the stupid key changes. It's a shambles of a song, with a very unoriginal 'cop-out' throwaway chorus. Awful, just awful!
Here's my lame attempt. might not work since you dont know the tune meh
Hey,
When I stepped off the stage
After winning nz idol three
I went backstage with Toni
And made us a cup of tea
b!tch be looking at me all jealous.
Wishing that she was me
I said to her don’t be hateful
I aint even signed by a company
Chorus:
Hold out
My single will not be sold out
Like rosita it’ll flop ow
but at least I got 50k and a car now
woo woo woo woo woo woo
Lucked out
now the whanau says that its my shout
Makes me mad so ill go out
Step out the door and its cold out
Ew ew ew ew ew ewwww
Rap type thing:
So went on out
Stepd outa my door
Losers beta not think
Ill be on nz idol four
Oh look at megan shes
Dressed like a wh0re
Bet she’s hoping that
She is gonna score
Chorus:
Hold out
My single will not be sold out
Like rosita it’ll flop ow
but at least I got 50k and a car now
woo woo woo woo woo woo
Lucked out
now the whanau says that its my shout
Makes me mad so ill go out
Step out the door and its cold out

I thought it was ok as a throwaway chorus song...problem is there's absolutely nothing in the verses.
A urory stroll down Lambton Quay yielded no luck in locating said single however.
You just have to swallow your pride and ask at the counter, Phantomb
I got mine from Sounds at the north end of Lambton Quay (opposite Midland Park) and had to ask at the counter cause it had only just come in and wasn't on display yet :|
Yes we had to ask at The Warehouse also where it wasn't on display yet.
It's good people are going in asking even before it's on display. Shows people do support the Idols and want their music!
I won't be going to town until tomorrow, will go in the Warehouse then!
I haven't got it yet...
Today at school this girl was talking about the song but she kept calling it hold my hand or something lol, she had no idea what it was called! Shows how memorable it is XD
Heh, heh, heh! Too funny! I gave the single to my workmate to have a listen to, and he got up to about 40 seconds into it before turning it off!
how much is the single?? but in away it sounded better with Matt's voive though
$4.69 at The Warehouse
$5
Matt sang it better. James probably wrote a boring song, knowing that he would win
Lol Kim, i cant beleive im disagreeing with you. i thought Indira sang it better
No way! Chevy, I'm with Kim I'm afraid - I was actually falling asleep during Indira's rendition! :|
So was I - she really suits more upbeat songs.. or ones like Better Be Home soon that actually have some semblance of character.
hehe well to tell the truth i was secretly a big Fan of Indiras but didnt wanna tell anyone coz i might of gotten beaten up
jks
I'm with you there too chevy, Indira was the other person I was liking too! ;)
But definately thought Matt sung the song way better. Didn't like it all when Indira sung it, Matt made it sound more interesting and listenable!
Very surprised to hear you say you liked Indira's version best- or are you just having us all on!
What does "distributed by Shock Records" mean?
And has anyone heard of "Tace" Records before?! (That's what it looks like on the cover, anyway ...)
And WHY do they always give us an "instrumental version of the single" as the b side?!! I mean, don't they think we want to hear the singing SINGING??!! Have you got it already then BIMI?
Yes *shame*
I only bought it cause I bought Ben's and Rosita's, so I thought I'd better keep it fair
LOL
When are they going to release the single? I'm really surprised that they didn't release the single today. Imagine if they release the single after a month or so. By then, everyone would've forgotten Matt.

I vote 'Badger Mushroom' as an Idol single.

Thoughts on what the single cover is going to look like when it hits the shelves tomorrow?!!
Matt's face! *shudders*
Thought 'what a nothing song that is' when Indira sung it. Didn't like her version of it at all.

I hope I don't get stick for this, but I actually found myself singing along second time round lol :$
Did you lose yourself the first time round?! LOL
*gives a stick to spazz*
I was a bit lost with that song too. :( The other two, Ben's and Rosita's, at least made sense, but this one, one is left wondering, 'What comes next'.

driving home last night, both Rachel and I were like, how does that song go again?
Another completely un-memorable piece of trash from James Reid.
The music industry will probably reward him with songwriter of the year now
Really? I couldn't get it out of my head in my exam this morning
I don't know whether to laugh or feel sorry for you ... I hope you pass though!
I bet she'll be holding out for a great mark.
LOL.
*alerts cheese police to this gross violation of the bounds of good humour*
There are plenty of other songs from last night that were far more memorable that I have stuck in my head.
Oh, classic moment on More FM this morning! LOL Justin and Kath were talking about having Matt on the phone with them later on, and Justin said that they'd play the "live" version of the single from last night at that time too. And then he said, "what's it called again?"
I was LMAO over that!!!

Hold out your electric banana
Hold it out for that farmer
Hold it out for that llama
Hold it for good karma
And yet another boring ballad song....When are they going to learn?
Here's my lame attempt. might not work since you dont know the tune

In the key of A Minor, to the tune of Walk This Way by Run DMC and Aerosmith, perhaps?
