Top 2: I hope...

Submitted by spazz on 15 October, 2006 - 10:33pm.

For once, I believe we have a likely winner who is also likely to make it in the NZ music industry!

Let's be honest, even though we might have thought Ben and Rosita were lovely, and sure they could sing, we knew deep down that they didn't have the broad appeal to make them a viable commercial proposition.

I really believe Indira has all the attributes necessary to make a successful stab at a solo career. She's young, she can sing, she's funky, she's articulate, I could go on.

The question is, though, have Ben and Rosita screwed her before she's even won? Has their dismal record outside of Idol set a precedent for failure? Will the NZ public ever take an Idol winner seriously? Matt will never be a successful contemporary artist, there's no argument there. Aroha's too young and arrogant/sulky/thick (her and Megan seem to have gone to the same school for broken English) to generate broad appeal; hence why I believe Indira has to take this out. But even if she does - is there any chance she'll have any credibility?

I hope so, I really do.

I hope Matt wins. At least there is a gap is his market in term of New Zealand music, Indira's is overcrowded with women who are all more talented and high profile than her, both with Top 40 singles in the charts at the moment. Matt at least has some chance of succeeding in a market gap, Indira will just be completely overlooked.

Both?
2 is overcrowded?

In the New Zealand market, I would say yes.

Get out of my car!!

I think the winner will have to splash out their 50 grand on a great manager if they want to get anywhere.  Indira looks hotter in person I'd like to add.

Kimmeh 29 October, 2006 - 1:05pm
I have an e-pal from England

I agree. I also think that nothing will happen to whoever wins, but Indira should get the money and car - which is what it comes down to.

I once believed that NZ had the talent to go international but now I just feel sorry for us. People who watch the show overseas think we've already used up our talent in the first 2 season's and then where hear all the bullshit that the talent is better this year.

Ok so I still believe we have talent and it can come from a person from Idol but I blame the fact that we have not found that person because the producers/whoever lets people go through to the judges at the start and the judges are simply crap. I mean every year it's as if we get the same ol same ol type of people rnb and light rock mostly.

I've watch idol shows in coutries that have less population and less money to put into their shows sing better then our idols. Serbia is a great example of this especially considering their show was fillmed in what looked like a high school hall but the talent was amazing it's just that the judges were looking for individual, a spark, x-factor. I really feel that the judges here are trying to find a NZ "popstar" who would fit into the usual music we hear, but seriously what if we got some different styles into the show? Something different can certainly sell aslong as people like it which i feel is why Clay Aiken and Anthony Callea are so well liked. Clay was different from anyone currently on the radio and people dug it! Anthony was doing big ballads and again people dug it and no one else in Oz was doing the same.

Sorry that was such a big venting session but NZ Idol could've been great but people got in the way of truely showing us talent.

I swear Teresa is the most original and extraordinary idol's we've had and with the right material she could be the new alternative alanis/jewel/missy (H) type of singer that could go international. I say this not as a fan (coz i wasnt the biggest) but as a music lover

tiggersfriend 28 October, 2006 - 3:48pm

Although I like Indira and hope she takes out the final from Matt, time will show that the only contestant to succeed in the music industry will be Ben Hazlewood - he will be around after all the others have crashed and burned.

Um but people voted for the best singers right? and spent their money on who they thought was the best right? Laughing out loud where did that leave Ben Hmmm..

nik_rox_my_world 28 October, 2006 - 5:08pm

that is very likely. IT will be Indira and Ben battling in the industry to be the better artist. Go both on them

Indira great voice yes, but wont do it sorry. Indira has been voted in bottom2 which shows people simply didnt like what they saw and heard.

Truth is Matt has never visited bottom2 according to the way New Zealanders vote, what does that tell you. Music Companys i think would rather financially back a winner whos always a safe bet for their investment. Music Industry are not interested in pretty looks but musical talents. Yes there is the Britney Spears and the Beyonces. but this is NZ

Pigeon Army 28 October, 2006 - 8:30pm
Phillip Seymour Hoffman=my idol.

Rosita neither visited the bottom 2. And where is she chev? Where is she?

I don't care which one wins. TBH, I would throw my weight behind either as a producer, but I would only throw my weight behind Matt if he had a band. And as for the thing about no pretty looks, I say to you, Jessica Simpson.

~E~ 28 October, 2006 - 8:39pm

Where is she you say?..well apparently she's working on a new album...oh puhlezze!yeah right! I doubt it!..I lost count how many times i heard ben was releasing a new album and new single!..All talk!

~E~ 28 October, 2006 - 5:31pm

I'm sorry Chevy but you have to wake up and get real! I know it would be better world to say that the Music Industry are not intrested in pretty looks...but this is a reality!..im not being shallow or anything, im just accepting the reality! The whole world, including N.Z is molded around image and 'pretty looks' not just in the music industry but in all aspects  of life...and im sorry although i truly think that Matt has great Musical talent, he would not survive the music industry that is alll about Image & Musical talent!...Indira is our best chance!

yeah yeah yeah we seen Ashley Cooper, B...., Jessie c, Teresa etc etc all the pretty stuff voted owt!
New Zealanders have spoken so many times about what they think about hot looks..... crash &burn!

They want the powerful voices and vote (spend money accordingly)! sorry but that proves hot looks and all the glamour BS are just not wanted by the New Zealanders any more Laughing out loud

Nellie 28 October, 2006 - 9:24pm
Massive FAIL!

I have to agree with chev. Ben Lummis wasn't as attractive as Michael, Rosita wasn't as attractive as Nik... and Matt's not attractive as Indira.

But they were all better singers than the people that were "better looking" than them.

NZ doesn't vote on looks.

so true Nellie!

I thought Rosita looked better than Nik? she had that placid/gracefull Pacific Islander look about her Laughing out loud

bopped for Rosita all last season Eye-wink

NZ Idol... The 3rd world nation of Idoldom

Yes but Micheal never had to visit the bottom two either (I think lol) in season 1 and we all know what happened to him. Predicting the result gets worst every season and according to the way Kiwi's vote I'm surprised Rodney Hide never became prime minister... Puzzled

The truth is, our embracing Music Industry - if we can even call it that - wouldnt do squat no matter who the idol was. The only way I can see anyone doing anything is if they follow in the footsteps of Karly Binding, she's the only reality show contestant to break out of the 'idol/popstars' mould and make a name for herself...

All you Aroha boppers? lol we still got 50thousand Matt voters out there with alot of vote power to burn Eye-wink

how does that work exactly? For the top two there was ONE PERCENT between them all. If all the aroha supporters went over to Indira then that kinda makes it 66 to 33 doesn't it?

Woops. I meant to reply to the post below.
Actually I should have edited that post. Oh well.

stylish 16 October, 2006 - 3:34pm

actually, your wrong Indira wont make it because she is neither pretty or slim.  Matt on the other hand, can go far -

miss_chaos 28 October, 2006 - 3:28pm
YOU ARE A syphillis SO PISS OFF

Wow, you've posted this in a heap of threads. The fact that you've been proved wrong in all of them shows how silly you are.

Run along now.

nik_rox_my_world 28 October, 2006 - 2:10pm

you are honestly dumb. If Indira is not pretty and slim then what is the difference in Matt? ThINK BEFORE YOU SAY SOMETHING

lmao! Based on your logic, he can NOT go far, given that he too is neither pretty or slim...
