TV/Movies: Out of the Blue - The Aramoana Massacre

Submitted by Mr Phantomb on 15 October, 2006 - 11:08am.

EVERYONE should see this movie.

An outstanding piece of uncluttered, unpretentious cinema about one of the darkest days in NZ history.
We see real people, real cops, real weaknesses.

Matt Sunderland as David Gray turns in a powerhouse performance. Dialogue is minimal - it's all in the nuances and the body language.

For me it's the best kiwi film since Once Were Warriors.

YOU ARE A syphillis SO PISS OFF

I saw it last night, it was amazing. The film-making was incredible, and the acting was amazing. It was like a documentary, that's how realistic it was. Lois Lawn who played the old woman was unreal.

Could possibly be up for for a few awards at international film fests I think.

Edit: I bawled when the policeman was reciting the Hairy McLeary book to the girl to stop her from passing out, that was such an incredibly moving scene.

*is a can opener*

I remember watching Holmes' live coverage when it happened.
Not sure if I'll go and see it for the same reason Admin posted...

I'm torn about going to see this.
It's New Zealand history and two of my friends are in it BUT it's so sad and depressing.

I see Sam's Town now!

I saw this last night... it freaked me out! I felt a little spaced out after seeing it. It was really good though. The Press gave it 3 and a half stars..

Well, seeing as The Departed has been pushed back to a November 16 release (What the hell?!? Most likely to give this a decent chance at the box office...), I might have to go see this instead... from what I've seen of it, it looks pretty good.

Massive FAIL!

Are they showing this at major cinemas or just the artsy ones? I haven't seen it advertised in any of the cinemas close to me Sad

It's at all the Village cinemas in Auckland - it only came out on Thursday.

It might be a brilliant film but I just can't find any desire to go and see it. We all know how it ends, it's just so depressing. I've heard people come out of the movie and feel down all day afterwards, did you?

Sure...but you could say the same about a good number of films.

It's not the story, but how it's told.
