General: Nz idol going further down hill

Submitted by grapefruit on 19 September, 2006 - 4:19pm.

I think that this show is jst going further down hill.

First we didnt c Lenken go through 2 the top 12 and then we c Victor get kicked out on the first round and THEN big shock Clinton doesn't get through and THEN 2 of the best in this competition , Becks and Indira r in the bottom 2 and Becks gettin eliminated....

I think this show is jst going further and further down hill

What do u think?

nz idol 3 is just so damn crazy we could have had a better top 10. why was birgette eliminated on the top 27 elimination? it was so stupid! she was better than emilie!!! so crazy - the judges, EVERYTHING! I wanted to shoot the tv when lenken wasn't through!! STUPID tv show! they almost made me shoot the tv!!! i couldnt pay 4 that tv!!! geez!

clinton_rox_mwah 6 October, 2006 - 10:48am

SO UNFAIR!!!!!! Clinton deserved to be there as well Sad

grapefruit 5 October, 2006 - 11:26am

thank you lucky that is exactly what i was thinking

lucky 5 October, 2006 - 12:03am

I think Lenken should have been in the Top 10. When he sang his song in Group 1 he was the best singer in that group and he looked great on stage. I was shocked when he wasn't chosen. When he was picked to go forward for the wild card I thought Lenken would make it through to the Final 10 easily. I was very disappointed that the NZ public didn't get behind him and vote. Looking back it's easy to see that if this happened to a good singer like Lenken it was going to happen to the rest of the contestants and it did starting with Victor. He was voted out and yet he was one of the better singers and this has been happening every week. NZers are voting out the singers who deserve to still be in the competition. That is why NZ Idol is going down hill.

I agree with most of Frankie & Stables comments.  The contestants and the voting public are too bloody soft for their own good.  I believe the judges are being constructive with their comments, and they shouldn't have to sugarcoat what they say.  Dom doesn't really help when he disrepects what the judges comments, "oh come on NZ, don't listen to what the judges have to say, didn't she sound good?" .  He reminds me of these new parents who are too scared to discipline his child, the sellout.

I was watching the American Idol repeats on Sunday morning.  As they were going into commercial, the ad for NZ Idol showed.  It really opened my eyes about how superficial and shallow the NZ Idol product was, the first thing I noticed were images of what they were wearing, their poses, the exsessive amount of make up and hair, basically how they looked and dressed.  To me it really overshadowed the actual person and voice.

When commerical was done, the American Idol product looked even more natural and real.

Every week I find I don't care who goes, because this season seems like a joke.

What's the craic?!

I gave up caring (and voting!!) before the top ten even started, purely because it seemed obvious at that point that the producers were only looking for more money :| I'm only watching it now for entertainment value (and to see how many of the audience I know each week! LOL)

bobrooster 26 September, 2006 - 10:19am

I totally agree with you! It seems so desperate this year. They are desperate for ratings, the judges are being totally inappropriate with there comments, voting technique seems desperate etc. Its just a bad season of idol, and that's not just due to the contestants, the whole thing seems to be running a bit shabby this year.

Contemp 26 September, 2006 - 9:49am

It's a huge blow losing Toni. She had the most seasoned voice out of the lot.

yea i will have to agree.. Ben should of left last night not Toni.. the public has made the wrong decision for the last week (Becks and Toni should of not left the show)

I agree - losing Lenken was the first mistake - and I would've put Victor in the top 5, he bought something different to the competition I think, and had probably the most potential to grow. Becs and Clinton shoulda stayed a little longer sure (especially Clinton), but Becs was never a front runner for me.  It does 'feel' like a strange season that's for sure - tonight was downright ugly, with snarking back and forth - felt quite uncomfortable just to watch.  For all that plenty of the Idols seemed aggrieved, and Aroha was her normal 'little Madam' self (ick), I don't think that the judges actually modelled how to take criticism at all well - in fact they were as bad if not worse. They said the Idols could respond then proceeded to caterwaul and wail in response ... hmmmm! Just a weird, weird season. Go Matt.

SoulPatrolBaby 25 September, 2006 - 9:42pm

I agree..this is just getting worse every week.

Date Me Before I Am Famous!

This season has been all crap...they only added a car and money so people would feel like they have won When they release one single and then are forgotten. And the top ten rounds are geting really really plan sad...ok 1st clinton goes, he was at least top 3 and then beckz!! wat the hell is wrong with new zealand..and now Toni..and ben was in bottom two its bullcrap. this is really sad stuff. i guess its coz people lose intrest and stop voting for there favz coz they think that they were good and the crapy ones will go home. NOT TRUE!! 3 weeks in a row really good preformers have gone. I think baced on last night preformances...and that BACED on last night "Indera" should have gone..im outta love made my ears hurt. but anyways im just a white boi from Rotovegas what does I think matter Sticking out tongue..but come on 3 weeks in a row!! bullsh!t

~E~ 21 September, 2006 - 7:51pm

Just face it!as much as we love Nz Idol!it just doesn't have tha same appeal as other Idol shows?..i mean its not the talent!..its tha structure and make-up of the show!the producers need to look overseas @ other Idol shows and see what makes Idol so popular in that particular country!..i mean why can't our Idol be just as popular!look across the Tasman, Idol is embraced and celebrated!...So i balme the Production of our show!..and the so called former Nz Idol winners , Ben and Rosita for not passionately pursueing their careers, these two should be ashamed of themselves!so lazy!and How dare Rosita say that she won't pull a Ben and jus not do anything!..Puhlezze! I still love the show..but c'mon..if there is going to be another show next year, lets step it up abit!!

THEJUDGESSTINK 25 September, 2006 - 9:05pm

Lenken was the best singer they had and they didn`t have enough talent or judge-know-how to even see it. They left him out of final selection and look what we`ve got. A handful of average karaoke singers but nothing with REAL talent like Lenken!

FoxForceFive 25 September, 2006 - 10:41pm
GO KALI!!!

I agree - Lenken really did have the star quality to take it out, and I was deeply surprised they let him slip through their fingers so easily, blasting him on his song choice which contributed to his downfall. I thought he did a really good "Brand New Jones" and then poof he was gone. That's just the way it's been this year - ah well on the bright side, it's perhaps good he deserted the sinking ship while he could still make it out alive. It seems the show's falling apart at the seams week-by-week; unlike usually in ANY Idol series, by now we will all be hyped up and excited and everyone's performing off-the-scale fantastic. Unfortunately, with every passing week, it's feeling like an out-of-control train-wreck screeching to a halt and everyone's screaming !!ENOUGH!!

Texas 25 September, 2006 - 10:46pm
People are difficult to govern because they have t

I don't think Lenken was ousted in the competition because the judges gave him negative comments. At the end of the day, the public voted him off the show. As you can see, no matter how the judges thrashed Kali on TV, they couldn't get rid of her.

BIMI 25 September, 2006 - 10:54pm
What's the craic?!

Actually, I think all the Kali "bashing" is a deliberate ploy to get her more votes Eye-wink

FoxForceFive 25 September, 2006 - 11:06pm
GO KALI!!!

No.. what it is, is the judges are not in sync with the public! Lenken suffered more because he took the risk of a Thicke song that no one really cared about, but the judges didn't help. I think the judges are probably even more peeved off with Kali now they got it wrong once again. It just makes them look even more foolish.

OK, we all know the Idol contestants don't get support from the music industry here in NZ, which has been discussed at length various times, so I won't go into that again here!.

But to say Ben has not pursued his career and is lazy is totally wrong!   For a long time he was held back for a long time due to contract conditions, therefore not free to do what he wanted.  Now he is free to do what he wants, he has been producing a video and recording!  He has also continued to sing  round the country and overseas, ever since the end of the Idol show!  His fan-club is regularly up-dated with reports about what he is doing.

Other also continue to work hard to further their career.  Luke is for instance, has continued to sing and record. Jesse too!  And Michael!  Other have as well I'm sure.

Rosita I don't know about.  But you can't call someone lazy if you don't actually know!

The one thing this show does give - as well as enjoyment from the entertainment for the public, is recognition for the people in it. We would never have heard of any of them if it wasn't for the show.  Having a recognised name and face must help.

Ben the Tongan sallongan(sp) has been real busy just about every week going to skools etc to give encouragement talks to the kids. Also Michael has been busy going to strip clubs watching 18yr old girls taking their clothes off and frequenting the Viaduck Basin pissing his money up against a tin fence (an old saying Lol) so yeah, they all have been real busy Eye-wink

HI CHEVY.

Contemp 21 September, 2006 - 12:28pm

lol that comment about Eddie Raynor was a joke

Contemp 21 September, 2006 - 10:08am

I was disapointed with the early demise of Victor and now Becks.  There went two potentially good singers.  In my opinion the best vocalists right now are Toni and Ben (excluding his dancing).  It's frustrating to know that a lot of people voted to get mediocre Ashlee & Clinton into the top 10, and when they couldn't deliver the goods, their voters left in a hurry. What a waste, one of those spots could've been Lenkan.

I think I also heard Eddie Raynor play a few bung notes, and I didn't like the way some of hte songs were arranged.

Indira has become a let down, and so has Matt, that whole "I can conqoure this, I need to put all my energy into this performance and prevail, I'm the underdog bla bla bla" is getting a little old now.

I expected a lot from Indira, but she's shown to be quite vulnerable with genres outside of R&B, and her voice lacks power.

I came across some clips of this years Australian Idol on youtube, and as expected their standard is much higher.  One contestant that caught me by suprise was Lavina Williams who was in the top 12.  Within 2 weeks she went from singing Alicia Keys to Evanenssence and she conqoured the different genres.  Not only that but, she grew inbetween those 2 performances, and she's no longer categorised as an R&B Soul singer.

The entire Aussie Idol product really blew me away and now I know why TVNZ stopped playing Aussie Idol as it would obviously make the NZ version look bad.

admin 21 September, 2006 - 6:55pm

Just to clarify, it was the keyboardist, not Eddie who played those bung notes. It was interesting watching the band after Aroha's song.

gumboottea 21 September, 2006 - 11:50pm

But I thought Eddie WAS the keyboardist?????

admin 24 September, 2006 - 10:09pm

There's another guy up the back on keyboards, don't know his name.

steve broad 21 September, 2006 - 11:10am

wow, and if the idols didnt suck enough...now eddie raynor sucks too!! shame on those auzzies for inducting eddie into there rock hall of fame, bad pianist, bad arranger..what were they thinking??

in other words...what a crock!! eddie raynor is an absolute genious and musical icon not only in nz, but overseas and what an awesome thing it is for this years idols to have his support and encouragement in their singing! neways there may only b a small few of us, but im going against the bash and i wish all the idols the best, do it for urself and reach ur dreams, rock on!!

May you think it's going down-hill, matter of opinion. The 3 best as far as I'm concerned are still there - Matt, Toni and Indira.

But anyway, don't have to have a real favourite in a competition to enjoy it.  I didn't like anyone in particular in Rockstar this year, still loved watching the show though!

hams_coconut 20 September, 2006 - 6:40pm

All those people you mentioned didn't think their song choices through clearly enough, and that's why they each fell on their swords. That's the way this show goes, if you have a bad night, it could be goodbye.. but if you live to fight another day you carry on. It makes for good tv entertainment. I don't think it's going downhill, it's all part and parcel of what we've always seen on Idol shows. I'll keep watching no matter what.
