man I am dissipointed. I thought this year tvnz/spp would change for the better. Idolblog is giving the show hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of free advertising.
They are actual idiots if they dont realise that or taking a huge power trip.

Nigel told us at the Wellington show it had something to do with navigation? some frequency thing.

They were'nt really that hard at the Welly show as some big islander lady just gave out 1st time warnings to put that cell phone away Now!. I think spp must suspect that people are txting spoilers to the Media or something?
Something about scheduling, too busy etc. Too busy for the fans? Shows where their priorities lie I guess...
And yeah you're "supposed" to leave them at home but Regan needed his phone there - in fact at one point I overheard one of the Idol crew (an important sounding/looking guy) saying to another, "Dammit, Regan must have his phone off". So they were actually trying to contact him for whatever reason, a guy like him should be trusted to be mature enough to have his phone on vibrate (or even off!) while in his pocket, ya know? There's no need to confiscate it, that's just being childish.
I really thought by the third year they would have learned about what was important in shows like this! Not to mention, if they're trying to launch someone's music career ... don't they need a fanbase to support them?!
I would think of boycotting the show tomorrow night, if I didn't want to hear Matt sing so badly LOL
