Top 2: Matthew Saunoa

Submitted by chevy on 12 August, 2006 - 7:18pm.

Matthew Saunoa 21yr old builder from Levin who loves his baby and his son and just wants to do the best for them Laughing out loud

taken from Levin Chronicle Aug12th....

Matthew very nearly missed his first NZ-Idol audition because of a mix-up athte Levin train station. He was sitting on the platform on a Saturday morning waiting to cath a train to Welly. After a couple hours waiting Matt discovered there was no train running to Welly during the weekend so had to hitch hike for the first time in his life and actually got a ride down to Welly...Lol

Asked what its like to be in the top 18, This last couple of weeks people start to notice you in town -especially the young ones. I've taken pictures with people, given autographs to people. "No one came up to me at first -especially when we went to Countdown with people looking at you through the aisle. "Now everyone comes up. People scream outside our house.. Matthew!"

Awesome Matthew!! hope you do really well

Certainly looks like Levin has turned into 'Matttown' or should it be Mattown or Matown!Puzzled

Really surprised they didn't have a big get-together on the night of the final to all support him together! Would have been a great atmosphere!

I was just reading an interview with him on the tv2 site and he says that it depends on the success of the single if he will be doing an album.

I want STABLES to win!

I got it today for my daughter and am listening to it now, hopefully an album will come out, I think Matt did some great songs and I prefer his version of Crazy to the original.

I liked both of Matt's songs tonight he was great. Love his vocals and I'm so glad the band chose Maroon 5's song something upbeat and recent. I can see Matt doing well in the music industry he's got the voice, he's got the chops, he can sing. Everytime he's sung on NZ Idol he's always delivered always sings on key, he's never been off tune like some of the other contestants.

chevy 22 October, 2006 - 9:00pm

did great tonight bar the Judges choice Bee Gees How can you mend a broken heart which came out okay-ish taking into account it was a song he was unfamiliar with and probably never sang before

Marron-5 This love he did this song great and powered into it. Matt was in his prime with this one and gave one of his stylish performances to go with it.

Great Matt!

to strong
to classy

New Zealand has shown that they want Matt up there in the top.
Matt has strong vocal and voice ability
Matt hasnt been in bottom2 yet, when all other Idols have!
Matt has great stage performance
Matt has hushed basically just about everyone who said he wouldnt make it into top3
Matt has piledrived all other Idols into bottom2 and basically walked over them
Matt was a nobody who had nothing, when all other Idols had big flashy 'hiss& roar' entrances then exited real early

Judges mainly give Matt a good review, bar Stables who doesnt count.

Matt puts heart and soul into his performances and always leaves us in shock& awe with his excellent performances, NZ responds accordingly when they vote!

Article in Manawatu Evening Standard, Sat 23rd Sept:

'Singer still on high note

Levin's Matt Saunoa says he has so far avoided attracting media criticism from New Zealand Idol's judges.  But he nonetheless feels last week the comments were a 'bit shabby', Mr Saunoa says.  "All and all they haven't been terrible comments.  It's constructive criticism."

Matt has made it to the show's last six.  When the Standard talked to him yesterday he was rehursing for tomorrow night's show.

The 21-year-old builder says the experience is both nerve-racking and good fun.  "I wouldn't give it away for the world."

And he gets to live in an upmarked house with the five other contestants.  "It's beyond my wildest dreams.  I can't imagine staying in a house like this again."  He has made friends in the Idol house, but as he has no control over who goes home, he has to be friends with everyone.  "We have our trials and tribulations but we get over them."

Despite the luxury and his new friends Matt is missing home, especially his 16 month old son Harlan.  "We're put up in the Idol house with a luxurious bed, but I miss my own little bed and my humble abode."

Not that he has much time because he is working hard all day.  "I thought that when we were down to six there would be more time for yourself.  When there was 10 (Idol contestants) it took 10 to 12 hours to record all our songs, but with six it took 15 hours.  It gets harder and harder."  And if he makes it into the top four he will have to sing two songs - but Matt wouldn't have it any other way.'

The article also included a very nice coloured picture of Matt.

I laughed during the clip where he talked about his son.  Then his partner talks about how great he is.  Then it goes back to Matthew and he's still on about his son, no mention about his partner. lol That was pretty funny.

His song was alright, nothing special
