TV/Movies: Disney's High School Musical

Submitted by ...Rachie... on 11 June, 2006 - 6:37pm.

While on a New Year's Eve vacation, high school hoops star Troy & brainy Gabriella -two teens who are worls apart- meet. During a karaoke contest they discover their love for singing & an interest in each other. After vacation, Troy finds out that Gabriella is the new girl at his school. Troy & Gabriella decide to audition for the upcoming high school musical. Troy's best friend Chad and Gabriella's new friend Taylor discourage them from moving forward with their plans. But it's Ryan and his sister Shapay -considered the school's top theatrical talents- who really try to thwart their efforts. Find out how Gabriella and Troy's decision to audition turns their world and their school upside down!

My opinion: Cool movie and hot guys and mean as soundtrack! I want it lol.

It was Sharpey and Ryan, and red carpet statements from Efron and the producer. Really quite a useless news piece.

Cant say I have seen this movie

My 7 year old sister thinks its great however

MattyJ 20 August, 2006 - 4:46pm

Hehe, this movie was....okay. Zac Efron was just the cutest (woohoo, they included a shirtless locker room scene, do they know how to bust out the eye candy or what? Eye-wink ), although I question how well any of the actors can actually sing. There was a lot of blatant autotuning going on, it was completely obvious, everyone sounded slightly robotic. Oh, by the way, Zac Efron didn't do all of his own singing, some of it was performed by Andrew Seeley (Canadian singer/songwriter). Probably the more difficult parts. Sticking out tongue

The Pigeon's Verdict - The one that counts...(Okay, so I'm just ego-tripping here, but expect this to occur regularly now)

High School Musical was...interesting. It's no Grease, and it's definitely not in any way a classic. It's obvious what the target market was, and Disney have faithfully stuck to that target market. The cliched storyline, ungrateful yet endearing kids that I loved and hated and the overly cheesy showtunes let down the film quite a bit. However, there was humour (I've never laughed so hard at the use of 'popping' and 'locking' ever before), the girls were hot (unnaturally so) and some of the songs (in particular, the completely unnecessary Get Your Head In The Game and the catchy Status Quo) were nice. The acting is adequate, though nothing that's going to cement these kids any permanent fame, and the singing was likewise (though Sharpei sounds like she had been sucking helium balloons).

The Pigeon's verdict? Two and a half stars out of five. Nice, but overly saccharine stuff that's all been done before.

Get Your Head in the game was the worst of the lot :S But permanent fame? Trust me, they will have it. That movie will go down in history as one of the crappiest ever made. Laughing out loud

And yes I loved it.

I DISAGREE! But you can have your opinion...

I still cringed at Get Your Head In The Game, though...along with Breaking Free...and We're All In This Together...and Gabriella's solo...and Start of Something New...and Status Quo...

If it doesn't kill you, you've failed.

I thought Sharpay (isn't that a dog?) and Ryan were good.

The cheesy 'whole school singing' was gay as hell though.

Get out of my car!!

I saw some of this on telly before I went out *shudders* it was worse than I imagined.

Back in my day, a Dargaville High School 'musical' involved bad makeup, at least one fist fight, someone getting suspended for drugs/alcohol, and the loss of a cast member due to pregnancy or a rugby related injury.

'Grease' will always be cooler, Generation 'Y' is wussy :|

YOU ARE A syphillis SO PISS OFF

Our school was heavily into music and drama so ours musicals were always really professional. Behind the scenes, there was rabid flu outbreaks, copius amounts of underage drinking and worhsip of the male lead by 13 and 14 years olds who were too young to audition. My school's musicals uncovered some talent, including Steve Broad and Kali Kopae and some other pretty wicked talent.

Edit: You're originally from Dargaville? Lolololololololol the freezing works company I work for has a plant there

This is pretty much one of the worst movies I have ever seen. So unbearably cliched, it was like a parody of itself.
