I think it's kinda silly that the guy asked for name supression and had the trial moved down to Auckland because most people, even if they're not from Northland, who can put two and two together would already know who he is and what he did. Especially where it says that the woman had breast cancer.
I feel really sorry for all his fans when the name supression is lifted and they find out the horrible side to him.
My little brother thinks he's awesome. He'll be so upset at this.. :s
It's sad finding out that you're heroes aren't who you thought they were, but it's part of growing up.

Northland assault trial abortedFeb 21, 2006 In a shock move on Tuesday the plug was pulled on the trial of a high profile Northland man after just one day.The judge would not give his reasons but it is likely a retrial on sex and violence charges will be held away from Whangarei.And lawyers involved in the trial want to see serious consequences for the people involved in the trial being stopped.The man is accused of sexual violation, threatening to kill and assault and lawyers had spent more than a year in painstaking preparations. However his case will probably now be heard in another city."It's a disaster for the system and for the accused in particular," says John Haigh QC."Hopefully there will be some repercussions along the line in terms of the reason why it happened."More than a dozen journalists covering the case were told it was halted because of an incident late on Monday that may have prevented a fair trial.Haigh says it was totally unnecessary.The defendant, a man with a high public profile, is annoyed that he now faces a lengthy delay for justice. He has denied the charges, but was in court for less than half an hour before the judge halted the hearing and discharged the jury.The reason for the trial being aborted is under investigation. The judge says it will be made public in due course, but to identify it now would only make matters worse. He stressed he was extremely unhappy and vowed the matter would be dealt with at the highest judicial levels.A hearing in Auckland next month will determine the new trial date and location but until then the accused's identity will remain under wraps.
Exactly ... we never really ever get the whole story to anything, either, so I will be very, very interested to see how this all progresses ... of course, the whole thing may have been majorly exaggerated and blown out of proportion, just to make a sensational story, eh?!! ;)
