Nik Carlson
Was born in Masterton 27 years ago, and for sixteen years performed in Country Music Awards around New Zealand.
At the age of 21 Nik moved to Auckland to pursue music opportunities and in 2002 appeared in a TV episode of Show Stoppers (hosted by Michael Hurst & Stacey Daniels), where he met NZ Idol winner Rosita Vai, after the pair were chosen to be part of the shows seven-piece singing & dancing extravaganza.
Nik and his brother Shane, then entered their original demo song, called Watching You, and won The Coke Rhythm Nation competition run by Mai FM. As a result, the radio station paid for the re-recording of the single, and Maori Television (MTS) came on board with music video funding.
When New Zealand’s highest rating television music show, NZ Idol went to air, Nik, watched by thousands of viewers throughout the county, shot to Idol stardom.

I heard it for the first time the other day on one double X (1XX?). I think that's a Whakatane station so I'm not sure how I managed to get reception lol.

Ducky just texted me and said that Classic Hits are playing a Nik song but it's not his single. It's a song he did on Idol and you can hear the audience in the background so he's wondering if maybe it's a song he's covering...
Edit: He just texted back saying Nik is in the studio. LOL

I think its too late now for the release - its waaay tired now - nothing new - he should of just released a totally new song
I thought it was kewl that he wanted to bring out Lemar's version of that song but that was like 2 years ago and it's lost its. . . .. everything!!

You're right, it's too late now for the release, and probably this wasn't the smartest move for Nik to go with this song as his first single. He should definitely go for something original and fresh, he is very talented and deserves to be successful.
yeah - they've played his song for a good month now - but just recently started playing the actual recording - I dont know why I listen to classic hits but i just love trying to work out the secret sound - never knew someone could find out that it was a person biting into a mellowpuff? lol
So, that was on Classic Hits? I don't usually listen to Classic Hits, that's why I haven't heard Nik's song I guess. More FM had something similar with Sound of Auckland last year, I was trying to guess the secret sound, but no luck. Yeah, they play some strange sounds which you can't figure out at all
I think Classic Hits has some sort of deal with playing Nic's songs because they play a few of his others from the show aswell - few weeks ago they had a girls night out - which they also had Nic (their special guest) singing - I think? Any hoo they play his songs alot more than Rostia's??

There's no "b" side - just an instrumental version of the "radio mix" of the song.

Ok, just got back from my excursion to find Nik's single!
I went first to Sounds Lambton Quay and they didn't even have anything listed about when it was available ... so I went along to the CD Store, and the girl there was really helpful! First of all, she asked which label he was with, and then she rung them up for me! (Note, they are based in Petone, if you're interested) Anyway, they said that yes, it had been released and she asked me if I wanted them to send out a copy to the store for me. I heard her ask them for about five or something, so hopefully there'll at least be four copies available in the Wellington area very soon! (That's after I buy my copy, of course!) ;)
Yay - so it does exist!! :) But I can't help thinking it shouldn't be this difficult...
I've looked for singles before and they haven't been in the shops. Just wait a bit. Be patient. It's only just been released.
Nik should let himself get caught on camera pashing someone from Shortland Street, be all over the Women's mags and THEN release his single.

I know in the UK songs get released to radio weeks before they get released as a single - that way there's a huge surge of people buying it when it comes out. So it enters the chart really high, and then drops like a stone.... (Or it can work the other way & by the time it's released you're totally sick of hearing it!

I could be wrong, but I think *almost* all singles are on radio getting promotion before they are in stores. Exceptions being things like the Idol single which you could argue, was on TV getting promotion before it's in the stores.
