Chat: Wash your dog's bowl - or else!!!!

Submitted by Mr Ubiquitous on 9 August, 2005 - 10:33am.

Anyone see the final Holmes on TV last night?

There was a story about some bill that they are trying to push through (and it is in it's fourth reading) that says dog owners will have to wash their pets bowl daily and wipe it with a paper towel - or be forced to spend 6 months in prison or pay a $125,000 fine!!! I kid you not!!

The Govt is trying to make this law.

Between this and the (now aborted) fart tax, the Govt has well and TRULY lost the PLOT!!

I clean my dog's bowl before I feed him every night, but that's just because my dog is a posh git and wont eat if he knows his bowl is dirty.

I'm not insensitive, I just don't care.

I don't find this "whacky" most decent owners should clean out dog bowls at least once a week. (Daily is a tad OTT though..)

If you knew how many germs grew in the bowls daily - it's really disgusting. You wouldn't eat off a dirty plate (that's been sitting out in the sun for a week with old food crap) So why expect your dog to.

Well, it *is* OTT really. What farmer is going to clean out his working dog's bowl every day? And you must remember, in the wild, dogs drink out of puddles and stuff. Who is going to wash their bowl out then? It reminds me of the bit from 'This is Spinal Tap' when the lads go to the zoo, and Nigel notes that the apes are being fed a lot of bread; "and yet", he says, "they have developed no natural baking skills" Sticking out tongue

Most farm dogs drink out of the trough after a hard morning getting the cows in, and it doesn't do them any harm. Dogs aren't *human* after all, so it's silly comparing it to me eating off a dirty plate. Most farm dogs like to eat cow dung as well, especially when it's fresh (true!!).

But yes, i would say most people would clean their dogs plate after a week or so (especially indoor dogs). I wouldn't say that about outdoor working dogs though, who get fed biscuits etc.

What I don't like is this "nannying" by the Govt - they seem to think they know what's good for us, so bring it into law.. Judging by past performance, they haven't a clue.

Let me rephrase that...
The 'Dogs eat cow poo' thing is 'nuff said!

My dog LOVES calf poo yet wont eat off a dirty bowl. Silly dog.

4th draft by Federated Farmers and other stakeholders - it hasn't yet gone to the minister.

"The new code will go through many more drafts before it comes anywhere near Government."

Still, there mere fact that it is being proposed as a law - that is just whacky.

admin 9 August, 2005 - 11:03am

Lots of things are wacky propositions... but they don't get made into law Smiling Complain to the federated farmers, if anyone.

correction - the bill is in it's fourth *draft* - whoich is not the same as reading.

Still, it made for a good last episode of Holmes, no? lol
