Im glad to see you all watching..Ultimate POP STAR- Especially Matty J - who by the way fell off the planet last century..one hit wonder!!..who the heck are you ?? to judge these wonderful people whom get off their bums and try doing something you cant do. Matty J get a life!! Your the worst singer...can you write music yourself !! ??? your not a judge.Thats why they didnt pick you.. Since when did you have a hit song!! 1980's?? Your life must be slow at the mo...wasting our time writing your blogs...make me so mad !! some god lovin christian you are!! I guess you dont like reading that..well we dont like reading your speculation...unfounded statements and total crap..were you actually there??...no you werent...i was....what would you know!! Stop trying to be the big I am...cause ya not!!
To all the stars on the stage...we are dam proud to be a kiwi. GIVE IT HEAPS
I wish them all the very best an its an interesting show..me and my kids love it..
What ARE you talking about? I'm not a one hit wonder. I've never had a hit.
I was born in 1988, I missed most of the 1980s, and I'm not Christian...are you confusing me with someone else?
What does being able to write songs or not have anything to do with being a critic? This forum is here for discussion and criticism, that is what we do here. Yes, I post more negative than positive. That's because there is more negative than positive on Pop's Ultimate Star.
My criticisms are not unfounded, they are based on the level of technical singing skill that I believe these people to have. You don't have to be a singer to judge singing.
Who are you anyway? I'd really like to know, because you sound like you have some kind of personal vendetta against me.
Thanks chevy. You're sweet. Although that performance really wasn't one of my best, and I hope one of these days I'll have a chance to really show what I'm made of. Still I do remember very well that I got a vote of confidence from Frankie Stevens, who thought I should have been voted through on merit of my voice along with Lissel and Rosita....thanks Frankie!
I take my singing seriously, and criticism and setbacks don't get me down as long as there are still some people who think I've got the chops. ^_^
As for my opinions and posts on Idolblog and Throng, I know my bluntness is hard to swallow sometimes...but I'm just like that, I come right out and say what I think without mincing words to spare feelings.....it does lead to having few friends because most people don't appreciate that kind of honesty, but the friends I do have appreciate my honest opinion and find it refreshing.
I do remember Lissel and I talking about what we thought of the semifinals group that went before, and she was very taken aback and affronted when I said I thought that this, this and this person didn't have a chance of getting through.
An example, I have a wonderful friend who is a singer-songwriter, and she loves that she can always get an honest opinion from me, her other friends will always tell her that all her work is good regardless as friends and family often do, but if she asks me what I think about a new song she wrote, and I think it totally blows and needs to be either improved or scrapped, I'll tell her what It think, and she appreciates that.
I'm not trying to talk anyone down on here at all. I appreciate every single person who tries to give singing on Idol and PUS a go, especially in a country like New Zealand where pop is rather repressed. But I, like everyone else, have my opinions on who is good and who is not good, and if I think someone is dreadful compared to the rest and should be leaving the competition, I'll say so. If I think David can't sing to save his life, and Steve shouldn't even have been on the show by virtue of his singing ability, I'll say so.
And to those contestants on PUS who are no doubt reading Idolblog and Throng (because I know a lot of you , if not all of you, do) and may be feeling affronted, understand this. Just because I don't like you as a singer, doesn't mean I don't like you as a person. David, I think you were great as Tama, and Steve, you're a hottie and should be a freaking model. So don't take it as a personal insult, it isn't meant to be. Nobody is useless, but some of us are just bad singers.
And just to give a list of PUS contestants who I really do think are big league singers:
Ben
Emily
Camillia
Rosita
Nik
Emily is my fave NZ born, and Camillia is my fave NZ made. Does that make sense? Heh. Rosita is a skilled singer (and a lovely person), Ben has a solid voice and oodles of x-factor, and Nik just has a great voice (but needs to work on his presence! Yes, I know I do too.)
I thought Matt was solid most of the time on NZ Idol but he hasn't done it for me on PUS at all....I always found Joe and Keri's voices to be way too harsh and theatrical, Steve is just an average singer, and David, maaate, stick to acting.
And yeah...that's kind of my "make peace" post. MattyJ, out! And not Matty J Rhys.
Yeah. I hope Nik goes...at this point, Rosita is definitely both a better singer and performer. Just like she was back in Idol 2005 when Nik and Rosita were in the same situation.
Eh meh. Either of them? They would both do fine....Rosita would tackle more vocally challenging pop songs and Nik would be better for cheesy ballads....I DON'T believe that a pop star has to be skinny. Unfortunately most people seem to disagree, because Michelle McManus (morbidly obese winner of Pop Idol 2 whom I absolutely adore) has all but disappeared off the face of the earth.
Lol man how many days did it take you to prepare that far-out
i'll reply later.. GREAT read. im not sweet and mostly post useless/ unusable stuff most times but definatly remember your performance like it was yesterday
Glad to hear from someone else who's enjoying it! And yes, good on them all for getting up there and trying to make the most of opportunities that come their way, to help them succeed - and to entertain the rest of us!
We make our comments and say what we don't like or do - give own opinion. We don't all like the same, doesn't mean we're wrong in what we like though!
I was going to blog about pop's ultimate fart but decided not to because I didn't want to fill my blog up with negative crap. Everyone has said exactly what I want to say.
Favourites aside my prediction is Ben Lummis....
I can't believe the true bliss chick went out... they're my 2 favs....
Matt is also wicked.... Camillia is awesome but has such a generic style...
About those NZ talent problems... I'm working on that with an Online Music Community that I'm launching in a few weeks.. http://www.yourband.org Hopefully I'll find a few with talent
given the time emily had to rehearse, i think she went well. she kicks everyone else by miles vocally - and dont give that, .."but its the full package bullsh**t".. cos, from previous idols? - yeh, worked out great....not! emily needs to stay in the competition cos she IS the competition. youtube her and you cant deny how good she is vocally.
We can deny how good she is vocally , because we haven't heard how good she is - or how good some say she is!
The majority of us have only heard her on the first show and not been at all impressed! That's what we judge by - what we see on the show - not on a show she's been in that we've haven't seen!
ofcourse not. If he was late id think he's simply not all that interested in wining. There's 50grand at stake here, and if Contestants want a shot at the money they'd plan ahead and take everything into consideration and allow a 24hour time buffer just incase "things" happen.
my op: No excuses for anyone! Iether your onto it or just blahzay about it
I loved it!! It will fill the void left by NZIdol for sure!
Even better are the multitude of anal comments posted by you all. *hugs idolblog*
I love you guys
I'm not sure who to support at the moment.
Emily will have to slip the judges some goey/sexual favours if she wants to stay in the comp, or maybe she can try out for a musical like "The sound of bollocks" if she's booted.
Thankyou anjelus, for pointing out what I myself have been saying, that Emily only got there in the nick of time. She only just found out what she was going to sing when she arrived, and the impression that I got was that she knew the song only vaguely before she arrived (i.e the chorus) and then had to quickly try and polish her performance and learn the lyrics properly in under an hour.
For all those who are spouting garbage about how Emily should supposedly be perfect because she's experienced touring should be reminded that people who tour actually know the songs they are are going to sing when they arrive at each destination, they don't just an unkown performance together in an hour upon arrival. I assure you, Emily has done far better on her Young Divas tours in Australia. So that's a big you-don't-know-what-you're-talking-about to you lot.
Sorry for the ranty attitude, but it ticks me off when people make hasty judgements without actually bothering to examine the evidence properly.
What ever Matty, the vast majoriy of us watching the show judge on what we see on the show. Most of us have no idea what Emily is capable of, never having heard her before. We are judging on what we did see and hear!
And we do-know-what-we're-talking-about in that we're giving our opinions on the performances we saw, and what we thought of the reactions of people on the show!
A lot of us are saying that we didn't like how Emily sung or performed and that we didn't appreciate her making excuses for a bad performance! Whatever you think we don't know about - we do know what we like or don't like!
Maybe if she's still there, she will perform better next week. Maybe she'll get a song more suited to her! Hopefully others will get better songs too!
Davey Havok with a k is a beautiful, beautiful man
Performance aside, I thought her vocals were not the best, but like I said in a previous post, I'm willing to give her another chance because I have heard great things about her.
Re the 'excuse making', I may be wrong here, but wasn't it actually the judges who brought up the fact that she'd only arrived a few hours before, not Emily herself?
I'm sure she said it herself first! Reminded me of Aroha from the last Idol who was always standing there excusing why she'd not done good, and no-one was impressed with that then either!
Davey Havok with a k is a beautiful, beautiful man
Well I've taped over it now, it's not on YouTube or the TVNZ website but I did find this statement from the TVNZ website in the recap: Jordan Luck pointed out Emily had only just arrived in the country and had only had one practise with the band. I don't condone excuses either. Aroha is a prime example of that, but if the judges bring it up, then there's not really much she can do.
Re-played it - and on TV, it was her that said about it first, that she hadn't had much time to learn the song or rehurse with the band. Also that is was because she'd been too busy representing NZ overseas!! Then a judge - not sure who's who - spoke about it when he had his turn.
and if Matt came in an Aeroplane late would people give him the time of day for an excuse? i think not
iether ur a prepared Contestant or not. It might help if Emily may book her flights 24hrs earlier (just trying to help)
i probably wouldnt, but thats cos he's boringly stink. in saying - how does emily simply stating what happend - as making an excuse and back chatting?.
Because I honestly don't think the other contestants would be standing up there and say "but but i only just got here"
If only Dom said it, fine. But she got up there, was average, and pushed that she only just got there, and that was why.
Sure, it sucks she got there late, but a pro doesn't get up and make an excuse, reagrdless of how valid it may be. I think other contestants would just suck it up instead of pushing an excuse.
i fully think your right! - cut emily some slack popstar nazi's. there are just some things you have to consider, i dont think there was anything in it that made it out like she was making up excuses. in the circumstances, she handled it well. dont cut her out just yet.
BUT having faith in nz voters?! (aWHOLE nuther story)
Just as an aside, we had a bit of an Idolblog reunion at the show on Sunday too It was so awesome to see Anjelus, E, Spazz ... not to mention Admin and The Critic Thanks for making my trip even more worthwhile, all of you!
Emily is an excuse maker and that's why I won't vote for her.
I'm also fairly sure she hadn't just got off the plane either. You'd hope they'd be a little better organised to not fly in a contestant just in the knick of time for the live show? No. That's lies and probably an excuse made up because she was so terrible.
I wasn't impressed with her giving a bad performance then standing up there making excuses! An experienced performer (which I think she would be by now) should be used to travelling round and singing with not much rest in between!
I actually thought she was the worst one - apart from David's singing, but his performance made up for it a bit, her's didn't!
Looked really bad when I watched it again after seeing all the others.
Nah seriously she was only just flown in. The audience was meant to be seated at 3.15pm and due to a delayed flight we were only allowed in just after 4pm. She was literally just in from the airport and had had ONE rehearsal with the band. She did pretty damn good for that but I hope next week we see her more prepared. She herself wasn't trying to make excuses. My sis and I were watching her throughout the second group song and she didn't know ANY of the words it was so funny and so obvious but she was trying and like a true professional managed to fake her way through it. I just hope they're better organised next week and we see a prepared, amazing performance from her.

LOL. Thanks for helping to clear that up, Alaina Roar.
Cold Chisel... when the war is over
one of my fav songs and i still remember when matty sang it like yesterday still very clear
Thanks chevy. You're sweet.

P.S. Here's my first blog about Fart Idol
I'd very much like to think your prediction is right!

i read on Matts bebo thats he's gonna turn up an hour late next show. Then ask Aucklanders to feel sorry for him and sympophy vote for him : P
Sorry, I somehow don't think the "late" excuse is going to wash for Matt ... given that he only lives an hour away from Lower Hutt!!! LOL
Feel sorry for Matt! You reckon!
ofcourse not. If he was late id think he's simply not all that interested in wining. There's 50grand at stake here, and if Contestants want a shot at the money they'd plan ahead and take everything into consideration and allow a 24hour time buffer just incase "things" happen.

I don't think so ... I think the plane was just delayed
The judge who mentioned the flight being delayed was Jordan Luck ... just one of the many UN useful things he said all night! LOL
Oh okay. Thanks for clearing that up.

I agree!
Hmmm ... the impression I got was that she sucked major arse. You say 'potayto'(sic)I say 'potarto'(sic).
Get off your high horse MattyJ. People don't care how long she had to prepare the song, it doesn't interest them. She was terrible.
Well it should interest them, since they're the ones criticizing her for being unprofessional with her excuse making.
i fully think your right! - cut emily some slack popstar nazi's. there are just some things you have to consider, i dont think there was anything in it that made it out like she was making up excuses. in the circumstances, she handled it well. dont cut her out just yet.

Out of all the singers, Emily could not sing and Ben was really good and I voted for Ben....VOTE BEN
*smiles broadly* Thanks - I'll pay ya later!
Heh heh
Just as an aside, we had a bit of an Idolblog reunion at the show on Sunday too
It was so awesome to see Anjelus, E, Spazz ... not to mention Admin and The Critic

I don't think her outfit helped her performance either
Sack the stylist! Oh wait, we can't, she's one of the judges ... *sighs*
Agree with that too, about her outfit!
Silly little frock!
But the stylist couldn't have been too bad, because thought Rosita's outfit really looked nice on her - Ben's did too! Good to see him looking smart!
Then again ... Ben looks good in anything
Heh heh heh
