Episode 4 - Top 24

Submitted by alcatel on 18 July, 2005 - 8:23pm.

The surprising news to some will be that apparently Jamie and Marino don't make it through. Find out who did make it through!

Live commentary: Dom reminds us what happened last night with the guys first up then it's straight into the girls' groups. They're all singing "Lean on Me".

Group 1: Makuini, Malia and Vai. They're feeling confident and they all go through.

Group 2: Krystle, Lissel and Lorna. Jackie says they're all good singers but it was a little under par. Frankie isn't so sure about Krystle - and she's the only one not to make it through. She has a few tears in her eyes.

Group 3: Christine, Ashley and Shelley. Christine forgets her words and has a little cry backstage. Ashley cries too because she feels she could have done better. Shelley doesn't think she'll be back tomorrow but they all go through!

Group 4: Ruth, Alison and Sarah. They had a late night the night before. Paul says it wasn't a group performance and says he'd ask Ruth for his money back if it was a show. Jackie says it was bad - no vibe was happening. The girls are really down about it afterwards. All three don't go through. Aww, poor Ruth breaks down afterwards. Seems like the group just didn't gel together. Alison says her little 8 year old girl will be really upset.

Group 5: Maselina, Teresa and Keshia do really well and get the group all clapping. They take it up a notch at the end and are very impressive! Yup, yup, they're all through!

Group 6 and 7: They all go through but we're not told their names.

DAY 3: Individual performances. Paul's Jacket is hideous! Gay stripes! OMG Marz in the background!

Lance is up first. I don't like him much at all... Paul says he took a risk doing the song and gives him full marks. Frankie doesn't think he pull it off. Jackie liked his performance but wonders about his voice being strong enough.

Saelyn sings a Celine Dion song. Paul likes her a lot and tells us a mini fact, as he does, that she's from Invercargill.

Tiresa sings "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll". She's 16 and from Porirua. Paul isn't happy with her song choice.

Daniel sings "Change The World" but Frankie didn't like his song choice either.

Nikki sings "Blue Suede Shoes" - bizarre. He thought he could pull it off though.

Steven sings "Sunshiney Day". Paul again has a go at him about not singing a pop song.

Letitia sings "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" but forgets the words and stops! She comes out crying.

Keshia (I love her hair) sings "Chain of Fools" and wows the judges. Jackie just loves her.

Rongo sings "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" but gets in a bit of a tizz at the start. (The background music is annoying.) Will it make it through on a bad performance? Frankie says you have to take advantag of the moment and not let adrenline get a hold of him. He's really gutted over it.

Nik sings "Me and Mrs Jones". He looks like a cross between Ricky Martin and Marcus Lush. Frankie didn't think he did justice to the song. Jackie loved the trilling. I'm distracted by Paul's "Fab 5" jacket. Uglee.

Poor Maselina is losing her voice. She sings "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". Paul is happy because she's sick and still sings well and wants to hear her when she's well. She's hilarious! Hmm, have you noticed how many ads there are for mums?

Matty J sings "Killing Me Softly". Matty J hopes he'll grow during the show.

Peter paces around the room and is quiet for ages and then mucks up. He sounds shocking... and Jackie says he crashed and burned. That's the end of him.

Malia sings "One Moment In Time". Jackie thought it was great and could feel it flowing out of her when she sung. Paul was impressed.

So... who goes through?

"Lean on Me" - Isn't really a hard song to sing. It's not really challenging the contestants. It's a nice and easy song to sing which doesn't really have any big/long notes. - A song that is really hard for you to stuff up. - Only thing standing in you way is your nerves!

I actually liked the song. Who originally sang it? The guy's song was not memorable at all. I can't even remember the song they sang from the last night's show.

I'll try and download it tomorrow. I wanna hear the original version. I always liked the songs performed by the groups on NZ Idol, American Idol and Australian Idol. There's something special about those songs.
