Dobby axed from 'Phoenix' movie
Toby Jones, the man who voiced Dobby in the the second Potter flick, recently told MTV that the ex-house-elf won't be making an appearance in Film 5, although Kreacher will.

"I know that the filmmakers have a problem with each new film because the books are getting longer - there's so much to include in them," Jones remarked.

While Dobby's absence will not shock fans who have been following the films closely, it does open up some plot questions. In the book, it is Dobby who both divulges to Harry the secret of the Room of Requirement (where Harry and the other members of "Dumbledore's Army" meet to practice forbidden defensive spells), and materializes to warn Harry that his secret hideout is no longer safe from the prowling eyes of the increasingly powerful Ministry of Magic informant (and new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher), Dolores Umbridge. With Dobby's absence, it is unclear how these matters will be handled in the film.

Potter series voted favorite Banned Book
As part of Banned Books Week (held last week to raise awareness of books that have been challenged in communities across the US), the American Library Association asked 5,000 people what their favorite banned book was. Unsurprisingly, the Potter series came out on top. "To Kill A Mockingbird" and "James and the Giant Peach" came in second and third place, respectively.

Hermione gets cold feet
September 26, 2006 - Emma Watson, who portrays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, has not yet committed to starring in the last two installments of Warner Bros.' mega-franchise. And she doesn't seem overly eager to do so.

"I don't know yet," Watson told Newsweek when asked about returning for the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. "Every film is such a huge production, and it's a long time." Unlike her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, the sixteen year-old actress isn't even sure if she wants to keep acting.

Potter producer David Heyman said losing Watson "would be a hard thing to change and it would be disrupting ... but ultimately (the films' young stars) have to do what's right for them. This is their lives." But he added, "I'm cautiously optimistic that it will work itself out."

If Hermione is recast it would not be the first cast change for the franchise. Michael Gambon was cast as Albus Dumbledore after Richard Harris died.

Or is this just all a publicity ploy by Watson and her reps to acquire a bigger paycheck for films six and seven? Gary Oldman, who plays Sirius Black, almost didn't return for the now-filming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix after having his own highly publicized salary row with the filmmakers.

[something i didn't get from mugglenet for once  ]
Movie 5 casting changes and announcements
Helen McCrory will no longer play the part of Bellatrix Lestrange in the fifth Harry Potter movie as she is currently pregnant and will be heavily so by the time they film the Ministry scenes. She is set to be replaced by Helena Bonham Carter. Helena played the part of Charlie's mother in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Apple Brook, who's appeared in stage, TV and film productions for more than 25 years, will portray Care of Magical Creatures substitute teacher Professor Grubbly-Plank.

Finally, the younger versions of Sirius, Lupin, and Snape (who all appear in "Snape's Worst Memory") will be played by James Walters, James Utechin, and Alec Hopkins, respectively. Also, Jason Piper will "play" the part of Bane the Centaur. Whether or not he'll simply lend his voice for the role, we don't yet know.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman=my idol.

Dolores Umbridge is being played by everyone's favourite British grandmother-next-door, Imelda Staunton. You may know her from Vera Drake (for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, I believe), the voice of Bunty in Chicken Run, or as the evil Mrs. Meads that Lou/Andy (I forget) kills by pushing her off a cliff in Season 3 of Little Britain. I think she's going to be absolutely awesome. She can be so despicably cold.

RAB revealed?
Following the release of the sixth Harry Potter book, rumors have been abuzz concerning the identity of RAB, the mysterious character who left a note in the cave in the novel's closing chapters. So far, JK has remained relatively tight-lipped on the subject, although she said Regulus Black, Sirius' brother, was a "fine guess" in the MN/TLC interview last summer. Subsequently, (highlight)-->"Arcturus"<-- was suggested by fans as the late Death Eater's middle name after the name of a certain star.

Now, the Portuguese HP translator, Isabel Nunes, has reportedly confirmed this in an interview with a Portuguese fan site. Apparently, before Book 6 hit shelves, she contacted Jo about the character's gender, and was told the full name as well as the gender. Her reason for shedding light on the topic at this point is to "keep awake" the excitement for the seventh book. In the past, Nunes also clarified that Blaise Zabini is a man and Professor Sinistra is a woman.

EDIT: Some readers have written in letting us know that the interview where Nunes said this was conducted last November - you can see it here, page 15. Also, according to commenter Ismara, "A translator doesn't have to sign a contract of confidentiality... Translators can share that type of information as long as it's public. If JKR told her the middle name and the gender, it's public information." Jo hasn't confirmed or denied this - let's hope she doesn't so as to leave room for more conjecture - but take that for what you will!

*re-reading Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them*

Hmm. I was reading about the lethifold attack again today. Laughing out loud
[Summary: a lethifold is a beast resembling a dark cloak that will suffocate its victim and then devour it, leaving no trace of its victim behind]
And I noticed in the footnote that the person that faked a lethifold attack was Janus Thickey! Laughing out loud I immediately remembered there's a Janus Thickey Ward in St. Mungo's! ^-^ So I went on the HP Lexicon to look it up and this is what they said:

Thickey, Janus
In 1973, Thickey left a note on the bedside table for his wife, claiming that he had been killed by a Lethifold. Janus was shortly thereafter discovered five miles away, living with the landlady of the Green Dragon. (FB) A ward for patients with spell damage (Gilderoy Lockhart and the Longbottoms reside there) in St. Mungo's is now named after Janus, which suggests that he might have come out of this incident a little worse for the wear

Hahahaha. xD

:$ I think I sound like an HP nerd. Cool
